Range Caf debuted in September of 1992 in a funky, old adobe building at 681 Camino del Pueblo, on main street in Bernalillo. The locals anxiously awaited to see what two gringos had up their sleeves. That first day was so busy that the restaurant ran out of food and could not open for dinner. It took about a month before things settled into a groove and confidence was built enough to tackle the evening shift. Before long, people spread the word about this great little place in Bernalillo serving ordinary food made extraordinarily well. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the entire place in 1995. Range Caf was now homeless. What happened over the next two months is a tribute to the kindness of the people who were considered Range Family Almost immediately people came to help clean up the smoke damaged furnishings. Food was delivered to those who came to help. Offers poured in for anything and everything that could be considered help. A benefit was organized to help rebuild The Range. It was a movable feast sponsored by three local bed and breakfasts. Hor's deurves were served at Hacienda Placitas, dinner at Hacienda Grande and dessert at Hacienda Vargas. There was an art auction with art donated by local artists, whose art still adorn the walls at The Range. Hundreds of people showed up and when it was through over ten thousand dollars was raised. Although the amount was nowhere near what was necessary to rebuild, the confidence it gave to go on was priceless. The next challenge was, where does The Range go from here? The search began again for a new location. One day, Antoinette Silva asked if The Range would go look at the old soda fountain her and her sister Rose were thinking about renting. At first it was thought she meant just the soda fountain located inside their grocery store. The valet company then pawned me off on their insurance company who quickly sent me a claim form. Two days after the insurance company received my claim they sent me a letter back. """"After their investigation"""" they concluded: a.) No employee had """"any knowledge"""" of my vehicle being damaged on the night of my visit. (Shocking, no one would fess up to it now) b.) No one else had submitted a claim to damage on their vehicle on the same night c.) They inspected the area and there was NO POSSIBLE way the damage to my car occurred there (I guess that means they don't have any fences, light posts, trees, etc.) d.) This one is the kicker! They state """"And lastly may we refer you to the posted SIGN at the restaurant that reads any claim of damage must be completed prior to leaving the premises."""" If that is the policy that what was the point of sending me claim forms to begin with? Needless to say, they basically told me to kick rocks. Let this review stand as a warning: INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE THOUROUGHLY PRIOR TO LEAVING THE ORANGE HILL RESTAURANT. The valets know that even if they do damage your car - once you leave the lot they can claim they are not responsible. The restaurant management never even followed up with me after I reported the damage to them originally. Thank you for a huge headache and a lovely meal that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars extra."

When we walked in, my 3 year old son was crying because he fell asleep in the car and we had to wake him up to go in the restaurant. He was so tired and cranky that he didn't want to eat or drink anything and was just sitting in the booth pouting. Then, I think it was the manager, who came and brought my son a jello bowl to cheer him up and to get him to eat. And low and behold...it worked! Also, the food was DELICIOUS, our server was great, and they turned my sons frown upside down! This place is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone!"
