The hotel just happened to have a cancellation and the rate wasn't too bad ($150/nite). The hotel was really quaint. Made me feel like I was 30's and 40's. The lobby was heavily decorated with ornate pieces and flowers everywhere, not my taste normally, but it felt right. Almost like walking into someone's mansion. They were having happy hour on the roof, which was cool, since it was such a perfect day. The people were pleasant and easy going. The suites were more than I expected - it was like they were previously bachelor's apt. - walk-in closet, built in drawers, sitting area, little yet fully equipped kitchen and place to eat for 4. The paint helped cover the oldness of things, but I thought they did a good job. The king bed was nice too. Pillows small and not too puffy. I'd definately stay there again. A few things to note tho, the walls are pretty thin, so you can hear what's going on in the next room and I'm sure your neighbors can hear you too. And throughout the night, I think the pipes were knocking, which were unnerving but can be ignored. Also we kept our windows open when we slept and though we were on the 3rd of 7 floors, we could easily hear the street and foot traffic and planes in the morning. Also they only have 1 elevator, which is really slow, so be patient. The continental breakfast is better than avg too - juices, bagels, english muffins, toast, yogurt, pastries, fruit, coffee/tea. A lite pick-me-up before you start the day. Hotel is also within walking distance of Balboa Park which looks like a real nice place to explore and hang out. The parking lot is small, so if you have space, try and hold it. Also, they didn't even laundry bags, which I thought was odd. We typically stay at this hotel twice a year reserving up to 18 rooms each time. This visit I reserved 9 rooms. This past stay has been by far the worst stay I have had and has been meet with no apology or recourse from the hotel or its staff. The first issue was when the reservation was made over the phone for the 9 rooms, I had asked if it could be one charge and not nine. It was towards the end of the month and I was limited on how many transactions for December cycle. The second thing I had asked, was if there was going to be an incidental charge for the stay. I was assured that it could be done with one charge and that the hotel really didn't have the extra services that they would need to charge an incidental fee. (I get by successfully in life by doing what I say I'm going to do.) Upon arrival to the hotel I go to check in my 9 rooms and I am first met with everything that I was told over the phone was not going to happen. The front desk clerk informed me that it was impossible to charge all my rooms to one charge and that every room would have to have incidental fee add to it. I informed the front desk clerk about my phone conversation I had upon making this reservation. She informed me that it was the system/corporate office policy that she had to charge my card nine separate times. At this point I had no choice but to reluctantly agree with what she was telling me. When it got to the last charge my card was declined. My thoughts at that moment was (How is that possible? I had over $1,600 on the card before I got here.) Well after being embarrassed in front of the other guest waiting to check in. I stepped to the side to call the credit card company, to find out what the issues was. What did I find to my surprise but there was a charge of $870.93 on my card at 6pm that day. Where did this charge come from I wondered? My bank informed me that it was a charge from Hampton Inn in Tuscaloosa, AL on interstate drive. So along with the eight other charges the front desk had just charged to my card all my funds had been completely depleted. I could not buy supplies for my job or feed my crew because of Hampton Inn. I had to get special authorization just to be able to pay for the last room at the hotel. Issues my employees had with the hotel. I was told that the selection from the breakfast area was very limited. Also, nothing seemed to be fresh. The a/c in the workout room would not work and made it hard to workout. That the rooms on the second floor had a mildew odor to them. The carpet throughout the building was dirty. And one employee had hair all over the bathroom. I have called the hotel multiple times to invoke upon or inquire about the 100% Hampton Guarantee......I'm still waiting. Now I have logged on to my account that not only has I not given double points per the promotion I signed up for but have not received points for the rooms I booked. I had overlooked all the issues we experienced with this hotel because I'm not one that likes to complain but man, this has just been one of the most terrible overall stays with Hampton I've had.",,,,

Shocked we were trying to explain we had rented the room out and supossed to have it until 1:30am and this must be a misunderstanding...well she was not having that and dismissed everyone in our family, including Grama who was there standing next to us. Now completely upset my daughter may have told her she was being a b***h and that was not the way she should have handled it. We should not have been told she was called into work for us. We asked for a manager on duty to talked to and was told there was not one and there was nobody to help resolve this issue. So the next morning while she was bringing her credit card to the front where the manager was, to pay for a movie, the manager decided to take it upon her self to tell my daughter and son in law that she was the bartenders sister and we needed to know that they already wrote an email to the GM to tell him how rude we were...EXCUSE ME...who was rude and the only rude that came out was when defending our guests because we were completely embarrassed that this happened and now we are being told that this is our fault. And how professional is it for the MANAGER on duty to threaten the paying guests that she is the sister of the bartender they had issues with and threaten us with an email...I have never experienced such bad guest service in my life...especially after spending so much money in one night. There are better ways to deal with upset guests...even if she really had to close the bar there was no need to tell my daughter, the bride, that she was lucky she got called in to work for her...And to top it off the manager had to make sure they knew she was the sister to make them feel uncomfortable on the 2 nights they had together there after wedding...How about saying sorry we have to close and the room was not reserved for you but you know what it is your wedding night so lets get you a drink right away while we get this matter taken care of...That is all she would have had to say. After that we had finally talked to the GM and the wedding coordinator there and told them all the events occurring that night. Neither had much to say, nor did either apologize. But we were promised that we would get a phone call as soon as they can figure out what to do about this.
