I was spending on a budget and just stuck to the house bratwurst without any appetizers or dessert. I thought the sides were good, but the bratwurst is by far their worst wurst (heh) with too much spice and not enough flavor from the meat. If you're spending on a budget at Brauhaus Schmitz I think your best bet is to just order 2 sides and no entree, which I'm fairly certain is an option on their menu. I've never had a bad side there, and the spatzle, cucumber salad, braised cabbage, potato pancakes and apple sauce are all excellent. I don't even order apple sauce at most places, but it's so deliciously homemade here I would go out of my way to get it again. So as for the entrees, my best advice would be to get what looks best to you regardless of price. Brauhaus Schmitz can get expensive but the high priced items are well worth it in terms of quality. Their knackwurst is excellent and the weiswurst is very good. The schweinshaxe was divine, and is well worth a destination trip alone. The delicious crunch of the crackling coupled with the succulent pork inside is a truly divine combination. The beer menu is flat out awesome, and while I don't usually go for dessert, the sachertorte is so uniquely bitter and sweet I would gladly split it with anyone. The ambiance is something special and while the service can be a bit slow on a weekend, they are always extremely pleasant, helpful, and let's be honest, beautiful. If you tried Brauhaus Schmitz once and left not all that impressed, I'd strongly recommend going back and making the commitment to experiencing more of their menu. He said, surprisingly, that he had meant to get them for me. At this point we asked to speak to the manager. She came over and asked what was wrong, we started by mentioning the lipstick on the glass and she quickly said she'd take care of the glass and started to walk away. I had to tell her as she was walking away, that the glass was not the only problem we had experienced. We explained everything and she said she'd handle it and walked away. We waited ten minutes and she never returned. We put our coats on and started to walk out and that's when we saw the manager just standing behind the bar. Another waitress asked, what was wrong and we told her we were leaving and she went to get the manager again. When the manager came over, she asked what was going on, and we told her that we needed to leave and her response was simply, """"ok."""" She didn't even care about her customers. It was all around an awful experience, where it felt like we had to wait on our waiter. For a higher priced restaurant, I would expect significantly better service and more effort to satisfy the customer. If I had wanted dirty dishes and careless service then I would've gone to some cheap 24/7 diner. A few minutes later, this same server (short haired blonde woman, in case you decide to make a visit) was taking orders from an adjacent table, and suddenly reached between the friends at our table to grab the drink menu--while we were actively looking at it. I held on to the menu as it started to slide away, and she kept pulling at it. When I asked her if we could hold on to the menu (since we were about to actually order more drinks), she squeezed her eyes shut and gritted her teeth as if it were everything she could do not to punch me. This is our server. No """"sure, no problem, I'll be right back to take your order""""--no, just a tug-of-war and a scowl that would curdle milk. It was unbelievable. Needless to say, we watched her closely when she picked up our food and drinks from the bar and brought them to us. She was actually pretty nice, in a schizophrenic sort of way, at that point, as if her other personality had realized that her tip from our large table of patrons (about 12) might actually depend on her treatment of us. So that's the service. As for the food, my fiancee ordered a chicken salad that she couldn't start, much less finish. I tried a bite of the chicken and had to put it in a napkin. Horrible (not spoiled, mind you, just horrible). I ordered a burger, and it was fine. We also had the pretzel with three mustards, and it was good. But overall, this food is not """"good,"""" in a way that makes you want to come back. If you're really craving a schnitzel sandwich, then I suppose Feierabend is one of the few Seattle options, but those occasions for me are limited.
