| 2017-11-07 05:28:16 | Raspberry Matcha Muffins | Matcha is all the rage, and we’re finding new ways to incorporate it into our cooking and baking, besides just matcha tea. Why are we so mad about matcha? Well, it’s green tea, but times 10. Matcha is the ground-up whole leaves, so you get more of all the antioxidants, caffeine, and other good-for-you stuff. And, it doesn’t hit you hard with a burst of energy and then a crash, like coffee can do. It’s more of a long, slow influx of energy. A little goes a long way. Almond milk activates the nutrients in matcha. Don’t use cow’s milk because it negates matcha’s nutrients. Raspberries provide a sweetness to contrast the bitterness of the green tea powder, and black sesame seeds give a nice, crunchy texture and color. If you’re in a rush in the mornings like we are sometimes, this Matcha Muffin recipe is a great, portable idea for when you have to take breakfast to work. So are these Cherry Power Bars, which have enough oats, nuts, and flaxseed meal to carry you through the morning. With only a half cup of brown sugar for a dozen of these Oatmeal Raisin Muffins, you’ve got a simple way to carry your bowl of oats and fruit to the office, with no spillage worries. |

By combining Asian umami flavors and great quality seafood with a dash of tropical imagination and taste. 271 | 2017-11-07 05:28:33 | Sweet Potato Fries | Sweet potato fries are a fun alternative to traditional french fries. They’re healthier too, because you bake them. Leave the skin on for extra fiber. To go with your fries, make one of the burgers in our Great Ways to Make Burgers at Home gallery. Might we suggest the Middle Eastern Lamb Burger recipe, which would be especially good when paired with sweet potato fries? And you’ll want a dip for your fries, and ketchup just won’t do. Those over in Europe know how good mayonnaise is with their fries. We think this Dill-Horseradish Mayonnaise recipe is just the thing. |

| 2017-11-07 05:28:53 | Easy Mushroom Farro Risotto | An ancient grain first cultivated in the Fertile Crescent, farro has a lovely nutty flavor and a delicate chew which transforms this risotto into a hearty and rustic dish. Parmesan cheese and butter adds a creamy texture, while the acidity of the white wine and umami from the wild mushrooms and thyme deliver a delicious and balanced flavor. Farro can be found whole, semi-pearled, or pearled. Whole farro has all the bran and nutrition, and semi-pearled retains some of the bran and nutrients. Pearled has the least. |

| 2017-11-07 05:29:15 | White Spritz Cocktail | The first vestige of spritz ancestry, the white spritz, or spritz liscio, was likely — as the Italian mythos goes — born in Hapsburg-occupied northern Italy in the 19th century, when Austrian soldiers introduced the practice of adding a spritz of water to the region’s wines, in an effort to make them more pleasing to their Riesling-weaned palates. This version, with soda water, emerged in the first years of the 20th century, and is a malleable blueprint created to suit each drinker’s palate. Simply add a splash of homemade syrup or fruit liqueur to a base of white wine and soda, and garnish with abandon. |

| 2017-11-07 05:29:23 | Americano Perfecto | At Grand Army Bar in Brooklyn, New York, Damon Boelte’s clever twist on the Americano turns the traditional aperitivo into a Franco-Italian shandy. Where the standard Americano pairs equal parts bitter Campari with sweet vermouth, the Perfecto splits the sweet in half with two different vermouths — brutish Carpano and the fruitier French Dolin Rouge — to create a more nuanced sweetness. The traditional topper of soda water is then replaced with pilsner beer for a refreshing, malty, bittersweet beer cocktail. |

| 2017-11-07 05:29:30 | Grain-Free Cauliflower Fried Rice | Who doesn’t love a big bowl of fried rice? Unfortunately, the traditional fried rice recipe can be high in sodium and saturated with greasy cooking oils, making it a far from healthy dinner option. If saying no to fat-filled take out, and yes to adding more vegetables into your diet, is on your list of cooking priorities, this is the recipe for you. Cauliflower Rice is a popular Paleo alternative to carb-heavy grains, and serves as a great vehicle to carry the “fried rice” flavors of soy (in this case, coconut aminos) and nitrate-free bacon. This vegetable rich dish is so filling and flavorful, you won’t even miss the rice. Plus, fewer carbs means fewer calories, which means guilt-free eating. 281 | 2017-11-07 05:29:34 | Mai Tai Spritz | Martin Cate of Smuggler’s Cove in San Francisco uses a Collins glass for this tropical classic, and garnishes it with a sprig of mint and a wheel of lime. Like the many maligned Mai Tai recipes floating about in the cocktail ether, the originator of this tiki classic has been muddied, with accounts naming Don the Beachcomber and others fingering his rival, Victor “Trader Vic” Bergeron. Either way, Vic’s version is the one that lingers as the canonical formula. Austere compared to many kitchen sink–style tiki drinks, the Mai Tai pairs lime, almond syrup (orgeat), dry curacao, and, often, two styles of rum—Jamaican and Martinican. Cate’s spritz-ified version pares down the rum content in lieu of a Champagne topper in a nod to Trader Vic’s French heritage. For more, see Cate’s original Mai Tai. |

| 2017-11-07 05:31:41 | Two-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream | For a creamy, naturally sweet, healthy, easy frozen dessert that can satisfy your ice cream cravings, we recommend this two-ingredient ice “cream.” There isn’t any cream in this recipe, or much of anything else besides bananas. But the fruit is full of natural sugars and has a creamy texture that works well when frozen and blended. After you master this basic recipe, you can play around with adding other ingredients to it, such as nut butter, cinnamon, or cocoa powder. |

| 2017-11-07 05:31:53 | Turkey Tetrazini | The classic rendition of this dish is traditionally made with chicken, but we wanted to change up our poultry routine, so we swapped out the conventional choice with hearty and heathy turkey. What’s with the name? Story goes that the recipe is named after an opera singer, Luisa Tetrazzini, though there is still a debate about the dish’s true origins: whether they trace back to San Francisco’s Palace Hotel or New York’s Knickerbocker Hotel. No matter the birthplace, we love this comforting casserole that is as almost as good cold as it is warm—making it not only an easy weeknight dinner, but also a great go-to work lunch. To make a fully rounded meal, make this simple shaved Brussels sprouts salad and then treat yourself to this satisfying olive oil cake for dessert. |

| 2017-11-07 05:31:59 | Dirt Cake | This dirt cake recipe lets the little kid in everybody come out. It sounds rustic, but it’s actually a sophisticated dessert. You start by making a standard chocolate mousse from bittersweet chocolate, coffee, butter, and sugar. with airy egg whites folded in. To assemble, you take 8 Weck jars and begin layering the chocolate mousse with crushed Oreos (that’s the “dirt”) and softly whipped cream. Top with a sprinkle of crushed Oreos and, if you’re making these for kids, some brightly colored gummy worms. For more, check out our Chocolate Mousse Pie, Basic Chocolate Mousse, and Amaretto Chocolate Mousse. |

| 2017-11-07 05:32:04 | Ham and Cheese Crêpe Cake | This layered “cake” of cold crêpes, herbed goat cheese, and sliced ham is an unusual first course or substantial appetizer. It takes some work to make at least 25 crêpes and to assemble, but the payoff in flavor and appearance is worth it. The good thing, too, is that you need to make a whole bunch of crêpes, so if your crêpe game is a little weak, by the end of this recipe you’ll be a pro, ready to move on to other crêpe dishes.
