Cold Creek Behavioral Health is a nationally accredited, non 12-step drug and alcohol addiction treatment program. We offer a full range of the most successful evidence-based therapies. Cold Creek’s treatment programs are based on the Bio-Psycho-Social and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatment models that are recognized by Columbia University and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. These models view addiction as a disease while taking into consideration that there are Biological, Psychological, and Sociological factors to consider when treating addiction. We offer dual diagnosis treatment, which means we treat addiction and mental health issues at the same time and in the same setting. ABOUT COLD CREEK LODGE

Cold Creek Lodge, located near the Brighton Ski Resort in Brighton, Utah, provides residential treatment to adult men and women dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Alumni lauded the staff, accommodations, and outdoor activities offered. Choices Recovery understands the need for effective addiction treatment for individuals who are struggling with substance abuse. The program's philosophy is to offer choices in the recovery process by using over a dozen treatment modalities with the goal being to reverse the physical and emotional damages of addiction and allow patients to enjoy productive, happy, drug-free lives.

As the name suggests, Choices Recovery is built around the belief that every individual should be able to choose their own path to recovery. To accommodate a range of preferences, the center offers individualized programs that combine holistic, traditional, and faith-based approaches.

Specifically, the program uses SMART Recovery alongside individual and group counseling, some of it gender-specific. Groups focus on topics including relationships, health, employment, finances, and families. Treatment also aims to foster good communication skills and a sense of responsibility, and to fix crooked thinking through discussions of current affairs. Those who want to follow 12-step programming can also be accommodated, particularly in a spiritual treatment track that includes both indigenous and Christian approaches to the 12-Steps.

There is also a focus on life skills, including classes on work ethic, financial planning, relationships, anger management, and family education. Physical wellness is taken care of through nutrition and fitness programs.

Choices also offers an unusual music therapy component, encouraging all residents to listen to music and play musical instruments to foster self-expression, increase motivation, improve self-esteem, and lower anxiety.

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff, however, the seven individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it an average rating of 4.14 out of five stars.

Pictures published on the facility’s website show a fitness room, a music rehearsal room, and sparse, office-style furnishings throughout, plus simple shared bedrooms. The seven individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s cleanliness gave it an average rating of 3.71 stars.

Of the 17 reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, two were negative and 15 positive — some alumni even told Rehabs.com that Choices had saved their lives. The reviewers repeatedly praised the facility’s staff as well as the breadth of programming offered: “The staff were kind and caring and it just felt like everyone was there to help you. At Choices, I was able to choose the program that resonated with me and that helped me in my recovery immensely,” alum Carrie wrote in a representative review. Repeated praise was also awarded to the SMART Program. Alum A.S. wrote: “The facilitiy is generally well kept and clean with plenty of space for patients to do activities.”

Two reviewers reported a lack of proper care and attention: “I won't even send my dog here. They treat poorly unless you kiss their butts... 50% or more relapsed. This is a crud hole,” Alum Charles wrote. Alum Larry added that he was kicked out for having epilepsy, which he alleges the facility knew before he was admitted.

Of the eight reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, seven were positive and one negative. Reviewers repeatedly noted that the individualized length of treatment was helpful to their loved ones, who frequently stayed longer than the typical 30 days: “It was a great choice cause first of all they kept her as much as they needed, made sure she was ready to go,” loved one Joelle wrote. Other reviewers echoed alumni by praising the staff, the variety of treatment options, and the SMART Recovery program. “So much more to offer than the traditional programs we had been offered in the past. They offered something called Smart Recovery here and that is something that really grabbed our attention,” loved one Sandra wrote in a representative review.

The single negative reviewer, J.B., wrote: “The ratio of trained counselors to clients is very low and the quality of treatment is very low.” J.B. complained of misinformation regarding the involuntary nature of 12-Step in treatment, claiming that they were told it would be optional, and added that their son met with an individual counselor only twice during his 45-day stay.

Of the four reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, three were positive and one mixed. The four staffers gave the facility average ratings of 4.5 stars, 4.25 stars, and 3.75 out of five stars respectively for its family program, exercise/leisure provisions, and holistic offerings. The Midway rehab center combines evidence-based psychotherapy, nutritious gourmet meals, and physical activity, applying scientific research to the recovery process. Clients can participate in dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders, in an executive track, and in specialized trauma-oriented therapy. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

A typical day in rehab at Acqua Recovery is busy, beginning with an optional 6:00 a.m. gym session. Clients spend time in group therapy, mindful meditation, and recreation throughout the day, with individual therapy sessions in the evening. Both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-oriented eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) are utilized and educational sessions address the nature and effects of addiction as well as the empowering effects of nutrition and physical fitness.

Although treatment at this facility is not based in 12-step concepts and practices, clients are introduced to traditional Alcoholics Anonymous and to other community support groups, including SMART Recovery, Addict to Athletes, and Addict to Artists.

Acqua Recovery's diverse treatment team consists of a clinical director with a background in social work, a board certified addictionologist, certified addiction counselors, nursing staff, and a recreational therapist. Also on staff are a nutritionist and a chef who doubles as a master gardener. The facility takes pride in a 2:1 staff-to-client ratio. Several members of the staff are in recovery or have loved ones who struggle with addiction.

The 12-acre, resort-style setting of Acqua Recovery is designed to provide a comfortable, engaging environment for clients. Residents in the 20-bed facility share spacious bedrooms furnished with fireplaces. Private rooms are also available. The center provides access to a full-service gym, sauna, and yoga studio, as well as activities both on- and off-site such as archery, a ropes course, river tubing, archery, and golf. Residents are also encouraged to participate in the local community through team sports. Special arrangements can be made for a client's pet to accompany them in rehab.

To date, Rehabs.com has received overwhelmingly positive feedback for Acqua Recovery from 17 former clients. All 17 would highly recommend the program to others, highlighting the effectiveness of treatment and staff's level of training and experience with average ratings of 4.8 out of five stars for each. The most common praise offered was for the staff, whom reviewers characterized as compassionate, understanding, and patient. Alum B.L. wrote that they found treatment team members \"easy to approach and talk with.\"

Ratings for 15 metrics measured tended to align with the facility's priorities and areas of pride, including exercise and leisure activities, meals and nutrition, and holistic therapy offerings]. About 25 percent of the former clients polled specifically mentioned Acqua's chef and healthy food.

They agreed with alumni that staff were well-trained and experienced, highlighting therapists in particular therapists. Eight individuals polled awarded an average rating of 4.6 stars for the facility's policies regarding outside communication, although three of ten reviewers identified this as an area of weakness. In a representative review, one parent complimented both the facility's accommodations and treatment approach, writing that a staff member went \"out of his way to help. His interest is personal and does not end when they leave. The setting is amazing!\"

More than a dozen former and current employees of Acqua Recovery polled by Rehabs.com described the rehab center as highly dedicated to its clients. “I see miracles happen in patient’s lives at Acqus Recovery,” wrote M.A.P.

As employees of a newer facility, several noted that Acqua Recovery had some kinks to work out. Of the recurring criticisms made by staff, short-staffing, high turnover rates, and a lack of consistent boundaries with patients were most frequent, with just under 50 percent of 15 reviewers citing at least one of these concerns.

Ventura Recovery Center Is located in a residential neighborhood of the Greater Los Angeles area. The facility offers medical detox, residential and outpatient treatment along with sober-living facilities for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment is offered in programs lasting 30, 60, or 90 days. The program is split into three phases: detox, residential care, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Long-term treatment options are also available for anywhere from six months to a year in length.

The program is built around individual, group, and family therapy plus confidence-boosting social activities. Specifically, Ventura Recovery Center uses evidence-based therapeutic modalities including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), brief strategic family therapy (BST), psychodynamic group therapy, stress management, and parenting support.

According to the facility’s website, the residential center offers private and semi-private rooms, and an on-site chef. Holistic and fitness options include gym access, yoga, boxing, hiking, equine therapy, and trips to the beach.

At the time of this writing, there have been nine alumni polled by Rehabs.com. The alumni all gave generally positive reviews of the facility. On average, the alumni group gave the facility 4.8 out of five stars for the cleanliness of the facility, 4.5 stars for the facility’s leisure, exercise, and extracurricular options, and 4.2 stars for the quality holistic offerings at the facility. The alumni all agreed that family and loved ones were able to participate in treatment through facility programming and that the treatment plan was affordable and/or payment plans, scholarships, or financial assistance were made available at this facility. The group gave the lowest average rating of 3.8 stars for the variety of counseling options to choose from depending on the client’s preference at the facility.

Several of the alumni felt that a strength of the facility was the staff and the support they received during the treatment. One anonymous alum wrote, “The staff is supportive, the case managers help with making resumes and getting jobs and getting signed up for school. The therapists are a great addition to the 12 step program.” Another alum, D.R. wrote, “Staff feels like family… admissions goes above and beyond for clients. The therapists are great!” There were not many weaknesses listed about the facility from the alumni but, some wrote that the facility is very large and there is often staff turnover. They also indicated that since the facility closely follows the 12-step approach, there is not a large variety of other treatment options to choose from. One alum felt that the facility could improve on the quality of meals served. Overall, the alumni all agreed when asked if the they would recommend this facility to a friend or loved one who was considering rehab.

At the time of this writing, there have been 11 friends/family members polled by Rehabs.com. The loved ones all gave the facility very positive ratings. On average, the group gave the facility 4.9 out of five stars for the cleanliness of the facility, 4.5 stars for the facility’s leisure, exercise, and extracurricular options, and 4.2 stars for the quality holistic offerings at the facility. The friends and family members strongly agreed that family and loved ones were able to participate in treatment through facility programming and that the treatment plan was affordable and/or payment plans, scholarships, or financial assistance were made available at this facility. The respondents gave 4.6 stars for the variety of counseling options to choose from depending on the client’s preference at the facility and 4.7 stars for the experience and training of the facility’s staff members.

The loved ones also felt that the staff and support received was a big strength of the facility, just as the alumni felt. One loved one, T.J.K. wrote, “Ventura and its attentive staff have gone above and beyond to create a caring and successful environment for addiction recovery. They work one on one with patients and their families to establish a wholistic approach for recovery…” Most loved ones did not indicate any weaknesses of the facility but one indicated that there does tend to be frequent staff turnover and another wrote, “Not enough physical activity choices. Not all counselors were approachable (a couple of them were playing favorites and one was continually flirting with an addict).” Overall, the respondents all strongly agreed that they would recommend this facility to another friend or loved one who was considering rehab.

At the time of this writing there has been one staff member polled by Rehabs.com. The staff member, M.J.B gave the facility very positive marks including five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations & amenities, and meals & nutrition. He strongly agreed that the facility was clean and well maintained; that the facility was adequately equipped and staffed to treat co-occurring mental health problems in addition to substance use disorders; and that the admissions and discharge procedures were swift, organized, and clearly explained.

M.J.B disagreed when asked if the facility strictly offered a faith-based program. He felt that a strength of the facility was, “Strong 12 step focus and a staff that truly cares.” This staff member did not identify any weaknesses of the facility and added additional commentary writing, “Ventura Recovery Center focuses on what really helps a struggling alcoholic. Through finding a sponsor, doing the steps and meeting with therapists multiple times during the week the clients reach sobriety through real experience.” He strongly agreed that he would recommend this facility to a friend or loved one who was considering rehab.

According to its website, Ventura accepts most PPO insurances and is a preferred provider for all major insurance companies. Private payment is also accepted, and payment plans are available.

J.R. gave the facility a recommendation for anyone seeking treatment. “Great place and great staff. I got better and its thanks to them, I definitely would refer this recovery center to anyone looking for treatment.”

The final alum, B.N., gave the facility five stars for treatment effectiveness, four stars for accommodations & amenities, and five stars for meals & nutrition. B.N. was skeptical of the facility at first but overall agreed that the facility was very helpful. “My sister picked Sequoia Recovery for me and I was skeptic at first because I had to leave home but I'm glad I went here...Yeah it was tough at first but in reality by the 2nd week of treatment I was really focused and ready to get clean. I would recommend this place.”

Set on a 16-acre private property overlooking the azure waters of the Pacific, The Exclusive Hawaii is a luxury, residential treatment program designed to treat adults struggling with chemical dependency or co-occurring mental health disorders. Located on The Big Island of Hawaii, in the seaside community of Honokaa, The Exclusive offers three types of holistic residential programs: 30, 60, or 90 days. The facility also provides an aftercare program, as well as a 10-day holistic detoxification service.

Before beginning treatment, clients participate in both a pre-admission substance abuse assessment and an in-person evaluation to form an individualized treatment program. The Exclusive’s treatment approach is not based on 12-step principles or practices. Rather, the facility combines holistic treatment approaches with specialized evidence-based modalities to address underlying issues contributing to addiction, as well as equip clients with proven-effective tools and skills to sustain sobriety.

Upon admission, clients undergo a 10-day initial detoxification process, which reflects the facility’s adherence to holistic approaches. The detoxification process includes specific nutritional and dietary supplements, acupuncture, therapeutic massages, infrared sauna sessions, meditation, and yoga. During the detoxification process, clients slowly begin to participate in one-on-one therapy sessions and intimate group counseling sessions.

A major component of The Exclusive’s treatment concept is “Core Belief Restructuring,” which is a specialized cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) approach. Emphasized through individual and group counseling sessions, Core Belief Restructuring focuses on five elements to improve the emotional and psychological state of clients: self-acceptance, coping and emotional fluidity, self-awareness, behavioral implementations, and a commitment to purpose.

The Exclusive also utilizes experiential engagement therapy (EET) to navigate issues of shame- and fear-based negative thinking. In addition, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) sessions are integrated into treatment to modify unhealthy responses to trauma.

Along with addressing the psychological factors contributing to addictive behavior, The Exclusive also incorporates a range of holistic treatments into programming. Clients participate in laughter-focused yoga, art and music therapy, equine therapy, intentional breathing sessions, and Reiki (healing touch). Clients also enjoy regular nature outings and participate in physical and recreational activities. A family support program allows loved ones to visit clients on a basis appropriate to each client’s treatment.

Clients who complete a 30-, 60-, or 90-day program are invited to participate in a 30-day aftercare program to ease the transition back into the community. The Aftercare Life Skills Program involves 30 hours of therapy conducted by phone or videoconference. To facilitate counseling sessions relevant to the client, the aftercare sessions can be conducted individually or through couples/family therapy.

The Exclusive Addiction Treatment Center employs a highly-qualified team comprised of physicians, registered nurses, licensed professional counselors, recreational therapists (including a therapy dog), and core belief restructuring therapists. Holistic specialists facilitate alternative treatments, such as acupuncture, reiki, and therapeutic massages.

The Exclusive residence is an eight-bed, 10,000-square-foot mansion perched on the ocean cliffs of Hawaii. Set on 16 acres, the estate is surrounded by tropical foliage and grazing horses, while the upscale facility features luxurious appointments and furnishings. Bedrooms are either private or shared, depending on the client’s chosen program. The state features an on-site fitness facility, outdoor pool, infrared sauna, hot tub, and two outdoor patios with sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Residents also enjoy organic meals and are encouraged to be active in meal planning.

The Exclusive offers a range of recreational activities for residents to enjoy. Some activities include helicopter rides, tropical forest zip line adventures, dolphin swims, waterfall hikes, and private golf or tennis lessons. Residents are free to choose the recreational activities that they enjoy. Clients are also allowed to bring personal cell phones and laptops to use during specified times.

Two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date rated The Exclusive Hawaii a perfect five stars in treatment effectiveness, holistic treatment offerings, staff’s level of experience and training, and nine other metrics.

The anonymous alum did rate the facility’s affordability only one star, the other rating it four stars. The alum cited a lack of intravenous nutrient support as a drawback, while alum Kristin wrote: “sometimes the cows moo really loud.” Nonetheless, both clients praised the facility’s beautiful location and compassionate staff. Alum Kristin wrote: “Smelling the Hawaiin air, seeing the beautiful home and property and being met with such kindness and compassion eased my anxiety.”

To date, on The Exclusive Hawaii’s Facebook page, which the facility can manage, one alum rated the facility a perfect five stars, echoing other alumni’s response to the program.^{^[1]} However, one other alum rated the facility only one star, citing insurance and payment confusion and difficulties. Alum Keith wrote: “They claim over and over your Insurance will cover 80% or 90% of your $60,000.00 per month bill, they do NOT, they cover 32% at best, so be pre-paired to pay nearly $40,000.00, i did and i am still drinking!”

The Exclusive Hawaii accepts out-of-network benefits from most medical insurance companies. A $5,000 non-refundable deposit is required upon intake. The facility also recommends bringing $500 for incidentals.

Clinical Services of Rhode Island (CSRI) provides outpatient rehab and addiction treatment services that embody a “big-picture” approach to substance abuse treatment, addressing the client’s lifestyle and environmental factors contributing to the addiction. Partnerships are created with each client’s family, loved ones, and community resources during the course of treatment to lay the groundwork for aftercare. Using individualized treatment plans and research-based therapy, CSRI doesn’t just focus on the substance abuse, but uses the client’s strengths to concentrate on a sober future, and build a self-directed life.

One of three locations in Rhode Island, Clinical Services of Rhode Island (CSRI) Greenville offers a 90-day intensive outpatient program for adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The Greenville location also offers general outpatient, outpatient medical detox, and group therapy. To alleviate uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, the facility provides medication, such as Suboxone and Vivitrol, during appropriate stages of detoxification.

Upon admission, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment and urine screening. As the facility is strictly outpatient, there is no physical/psychiatric assessment or blood work. Allowing clients to meet professional, family, and personal obligations, CSRI Greenville provides a flexible morning and evening schedule of sessions, each lasting approximately three hours.

Treatment is based on 12-step participation and fellowship, and clients are expected to attend 12-step meetings and perform associated “step-work.” Along with 12-step practices, the facility also holds regular peer group sessions to address a variety of issues associated with chemical dependency and recovery. In addition, there’s cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and one-on-one counseling sessions with a primary counselor.

Clients also attend psychoeducational classes and didactic groups, which are provided in a classroom setting. These classes are designed to assist individuals with post-treatment coping skills and implementing recovery strategies upon program completion.

If appropriate, the program curriculum may incorporate medication-assisted therapy, a family education and therapy program, and additional psychiatric care, based on the client’s assessed needs and situation.

Led by clinical directors and program managers, CSRI Greenville employs a multidisciplinary team of master’s level therapists and licensed counselors highly experienced in addiction and mental health. According to the facility’s website, many of the counselors are also in long-term recovery.

Banyan Treatment Center operates three outpatient treatment centers in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Florida, as well as a detox facility in Florida. The Banyan Treatment Center in Massachusetts offers a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), outpatient treatment, and aftercare for clients seeking treatment for substance abuse, and is located in an industrial zone in the suburban town of Wilmington, 15 miles north of Boston. Some detox services may be available to help clients prepare for the treatment programs. Aftercare services are integrated into all of the treatment programs.

The treatment process at Banyan Treatment Center (Banyan Massachusetts) begins with an assessment by medical and clinical team members. Their goal is to determine how to best treat a client including identifying the need for detox. Medication can be provided to help manage withdrawal and treatment practices. However, a full detox program is not available.

Treatment consists of a medical component and a therapeutic component. The medical component of treatment is primarily covered through Vivitrol injections. Vivitrol is a medicine that blocks brain receptors that are activated by opioids. It can be used to reduce the likelihood of relapse on opioids or alcohol. The therapeutic component of the program consists of group, family, couples’, and individual therapy. The programs also emphasize long-term recovery and preventing relapse.

Therapy comprises a large segment of the treatment process. Clients spend much of their time in individual counseling and group sessions which focus on identifying problem behaviors and developing coping skills. Educational courses are also used to teaching sober living skills and to help clients establish better living habits.

The center is open five days a week, and sessions are scheduled to suit a variety of schedules, including those who have daytime commitments. There is dedicated programming at all intensities — PHP, IOP, and general outpatient — for professionals, such as teachers, healthcare professionals, business executives, and legal professionals.

Aftercare services are available to help clients transition back into their communities. Upon completing treatment, all clients are welcome to join the alumni program, which helps them to stay connected to one another the recovery community. Family involvement is encouraged and counseling is available to establish family connections.

The treatment team at Banyan Treatment Center includes social workers, addiction counselors, a Ph.D.-level nurse practitioner, and an emergency medical technician (EMT). Alternative to Meds Center (ATMC) provides holistic treatment for mental health, addiction, and co-occurring dual diagnosis. This facility is located in beautiful Sedona, Ariz. and offers clients a residential inpatient treatment program.

ATMC uses integrative and holistic medicine approaches to treat mental health and addiction. This facility focuses on addressing the mind, body, and spirit of the residents holistically instead of with the use of prescription medications. ATMC uses medication tapering programs to overcome withdrawal from antidepressants, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, alcohol, opiates, and prescription drug medications. The center’s “Detox Shoppe,” where clients will spend time five days per week, “concentrates residents’ energies” on removing toxins.

Holistic treatments include environmental medicine, biotransformation of toxic burden, heavy metal chelation, targeted neurotransmitter repair, top-shelf microbiome science including organic diets with a nutritionally ketogenic focus, nebulized glutathione, acupuncture, energy medicine, massage therapy, ionic footbaths, colonic hydrotherapy, neurotransmitter rehabilitation, orthomolecular medicine, and neurotoxin removal. These treatments work to correct imbalances in the body’s chemistry. Medication tapering is also offered.

Lab and genetic testing is conducted during treatment for clients. These results are used to determine the biochemistry and neurochemistry needs of the resident along with providing information needed to develop individualized detoxification protocol.

Residential treatment programs range from four to eight weeks, during which time clients participate in weekly clinical meetings, daily detoxification program (Monday through Friday) peer support counseling, one-on-one counseling, and holistic treatments including massages, acupuncture, ionic foot baths, and yoga.

ATMC’s 18-bed facility offers spa-like, relaxing surroundings. The living areas include shared bedrooms, private bedrooms, a living room with internet and TV access, large dining area, plenty of outdoor seating in a park like setting, and a pool and hot tub area. There are weekly outings for the residents that allow them to enjoy nearby trails and the natural beauty of Sedona.

The sole alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mostly positive review. The alum, Pamela, gave four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. \"I did relapse 6 months after leaving, but I learned valuable tools to stay sober, and I am sober now,\" she wrote. \"I also learned to eat correctly, meditate, and take the right supplements. I also made lifelong friends there with other patients and staff.\"

Pamela gave five out of five stars for accommodations and amenities along with meals and nutrition.

At the time of this writing, the five individuals to leave reviews on Yelp for Alternative to Meds Center provided very mixed feedback. Of the three alumni who left reviews, two provided positive reviews, and one left negative feedback.^[1] One representative reviewer wrote: \"ATMC did a phenomenal job with getting off meds and reducing anxiety. Staff is very warm and gracious\".
