  • ","American International College was founded in 1885 with the specific mission of preparing the new immigrants flooding into New England to become productive citizens and leaders in their adopted country. This mission has broadened over the years to include students from a wide variety of backgrounds, including first generation students, those seeking a pre-professional experience, international students, and student athletes, as well as those seeking a broad grounding in the liberal arts. In all cases, the mission is to ""transform lives"" through a strong connection between the student and his or her instructors, a rich campus life, great diversity, and a wide choice of sports and co-curricular activities that build skills in leadership and team work. The undergraduate component of the College has remained intentionally small with just over 1500 students working toward one of thirty-five majors in arts and sciences, social science, business, and health sciences. The rigorous General Education curriculum provides all students - regardless of their major field of study - with a solid grounding in writing, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, global and cultural awareness, and social responsibility. In the past decade, graduate education has expanded considerably, and this trend continued in the academic year 2015-16, with graduate students now representing considerably more than half of total enrollment. The large component of the graduate student body is engaged in studies of education across a wide range of specializations - including special needs, early childhood development, school administration and leadership. Other programs include business studies where AIC was the first to offer the MBA (Masters of Business Administration) in Massachusetts outside of the Boston area and offers a masters degree in accounting and taxation, as well. There are also masters level programs in clinical psychology, forensic psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, counseling and leadership, as well as doctorates in Educational Psychology, Education, and Physical Therapy. The College is located on a 58 acre campus in Springfield, a mid sized city in the Connecticut River Valley with a rich history dating to the colonial period. The campus is less than two hours from Boston and three hours from New York City. A majority of AIC students experience internships that are directly tied to their field of study and serve as preparation for the job market. The Office of Career Development maintains strong ties with employers not only in Springfield but also in Connecticut and the Boston area. Students have interned at organizations such as Massachusetts Mutual Life, the Boston Red Sox, ESPN, Lego Systems, Disney World, and the Springfield Museums. During the academic year 2015-16 AIC students were engaged in many community activities as part of the Colleges efforts to be ""Springfields best neighbor."" AIC competes athletically in many sports at the NCAA Division II level and at the Division I level in ice hockey. AIC faculty members presented papers at national and regional academic conferences and the honors program expanded its research emphasis for students. The College continues to invest in technology for the classroom and systems upgrades to streamline administration with the goal of providing the best possible service to its core stakeholders - the students who attend AIC and the families that support them.","Private, Coed",1885,N/A,Semester,Urban,N/A,"1000 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109","(413) 205-3900",, 254,"2018-04-07 07:55:20","Babson College","Babson College is one of more than 800 institutions with graduate schools surveyed by U.S. News on an annual basis. With the second lowest tuition of all public universities in the state, an average financial aid package of $12,265 and 94 percent of freshmen receiving aid, we are committed to making a quality education affordable. Recognized by U.S. News and World Report's ranking of Americas Best Colleges, Northern is rated one of the top 30 public schools in the Midwest. It was also identified as the campus in Michigan with the friendliest students by Niche magazine. Northern's home, the city of Marquette, has been named one of the nation's top communities for young people, families, sportsmen, bicyclists, vacationers and entrepreneurs. NMU's 350-acre campus and the surrounding area serve as a natural extension of the classroom. At Invent@NMU, students help entrepreneurs bring their product to market. English students work on the acclaimed Passages North literary journal. Art and design students create logos for international organizations. And communication and performance studies students produced an Emmy-nominated documentary. Psychology students help autistic children in a new on-campus Behavior Education Assessment and Research Center, while clinical sciences students practice their skills with community youth and adults in the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic. Some one-of-a-kind new academic programs that Northern offers include the only cold-climate forensic anthropology research station and program in the world; the first and only medicinal plant chemistry degree in the U.S.; and the only Native American Studies baccalaureate degree program in Michigan. Through the unique Student Leader Fellowship Program and Superior Edge, NMU students provide nearly 900,000 hours of volunteer service to the community each year. On campus, students learn in spaces such as the new Jamrich Hall that boasts active learning classrooms and collaborative student spaces; the state-of-the-art Seaborg Science Complex, which has more than two dozen labs; the Jacobetti Complex, which offers training in more than 20 skilled trades, from aviation maintenance to welding; and the sophisticated School of Art and Design facility, which was recognized by the American Institute of Architects. Founded in 1818, SLU was the first institution of higher education west of the Mississippi River and is the second-oldest Jesuit university in the United States. Its mission is the pursuit of truth for the greater glory of God and for the service of humanity. In 2016, SLU enrolled its most academically gifted freshman class in history -- an impressive group boasting a record mean high school GPA of 3.89 and an all-time high average ACT score of 28.0. Overall, more than 12,900 students studied at SLU during the 2016-2017 academic year. SLU has an average class size of 25.26 and a 9-1 student-faculty ratio.SLU is one of only nine Catholic universities to earn a ""high"" or ""very high"" research activity classification through the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. SLU researchers have received millions of dollars in grant funding from the NIH, NSF and other major organizations. Medical researchers are exploring vaccines for the Zika virus as well as new treatments for tuberculosis, chronic pain and obesity. Supported by grants for non-medical research, SLU scientists also are studying food production and climate change, sustainable agriculture, social connectedness in robots, touchscreen technology for students with visual impairments, the development of more robust virtual cloud-computing networks to be used during natural disasters and the eating and swimming patterns of whales. In 2016, SLU opened its first new residence hall in more than 20 years. Located in the heart of the University's campus, Spring Hall is a $43 million, eight-story complex that houses more than 450 freshmen and sophomores. Nearby, a second new residence hall is currently under construction. That $71 million, seven-story facility will house an additional 530 first- and second-year students when it opens in fall 2017.Also in 2016, SLU and its health care partner SSM Health unveiled a master facility plan for a new $550 million hospital and outpatient care facility located at the University's Medical Center. This extraordinary commitment to outreach earned the University a place on the prestigious President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the ninth consecutive year in 2016. Saint Louis University also has been a forerunner in international education and was one of the early American universities to establish a campus abroad. Founded in 1967, SLU's free-standing campus in Madrid was the first U.S. institution recognized by Spain's higher education authority as an official foreign university. Today, SLU-Madrid is home to more than 670 students from nearly 50 countries.Just as the Gateway Arch symbolizes the pioneering settlers of the American West, Saint Louis University remains a beacon for all pioneers in higher education. More than 100 dual degree programs allow our students to complete an undergraduate and a graduate degree in less time than if each degree was pursued separately. Hofstra is the only university ever chosen to host U.S. presidential debates in three consecutive election cycles (2008, 2012 and 2016) and is home to the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs and the Center for the Study of the American Presidency. At Hofstra, 93 percent of full-time faculty members hold the highest degree in their fields, and many have been recognized with Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships, National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities awards, and Emmy Awards. We offer small classes (student-faculty ratio of 14-to-1 and an average undergraduate class size of 21) taught by professors, not graduate assistants. At Hofstra, each student is assigned two academic advisors (a student affairs advisor and a professor in their major) to facilitate progress and provide guidance from the first year through graduation and beyond. With an emphasis on experiential and hands-on learning, we provide innovative technology and equipment on campus; access to internships and co-ops -- including an engineering co-op -- in nearby New York City; study abroad programs; and fellowships and field research designed to develop students' interests and abilities. Hofstra offers educational, co-curricular and cultural programs and initiatives that foster an awareness of local, national and global issues, and encourages students to be active citizens within the university and beyond our campus. In addition, Hofstra offers a dual degree program with Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) in global business or global finance and economics. Classes are taught by Zarb and DUFE faculty at Hofstra with a six-week summer internship in China. Hofstra fosters a community that is committed to sustainable practices. Through its Office of Sustainability, Sustainability Studies degree programs, and research efforts, Hofstra plays an important role as a steward of the environment. Students enjoy drinking-water refill stations across campus, manage their own garden, and work with local organizations during student move-out at the end of each semester to donate thousands of pounds of food. • ","""Marist is dedicated to helping students develop the intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive lives in the global community of the 21st century.""The College fulfills its mission by pursuing three ideals: excellence in education, the importance of community, and the principle of service. These ideals were handed down to us by the Marist Brothers who founded the College. Although Marist is now an independent institution governed by a lay board of trustees, the three ideals remain an integral part of the College mission. The Marist ideal of excellence in education is achieved through an emphasis on quality teaching and distinctive learning opportunities. At the undergraduate level, this begins with a firm foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. Through core courses and their major field of study, students are educated to think logically and creatively, be able to synthesize and integrate methods and insights from a variety of disciplines, and effectively express their opinions both orally and in writing. Students are encouraged to consider the ethical dimensions of the subjects they study, and to become more aware of their own values and the value implications of the choices they make in their public and private lives. They are also exposed to cultures other than their own through on-campus programs and study abroad. In addition to offering undergraduate programs to traditional-age students, Marist has a long history of serving the needs of adult learners for graduate, degree completion, and continuing education programs. The College offers these students an educational experience that meets the same high standards as our traditional undergraduate programs. Marist allows these students to balance their education with work and family responsibilities by offering flexible scheduling, alternative methods of program delivery, and satellite campuses.Marist seeks to distinguish itself by the manner in which it uses information technology to support teaching, learning, and scholarship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College believes that by familiarizing our students with these advanced technologies, it better prepares them to be productive members of society and lifelong learners. The Marist ideal of community is based on the belief that we become a better institution through the active involvement of faculty, staff, students, and alumni in the life of the College. At a time when social bonds in our society are tenuous, we seek to develop a relationship between our community members and the College that will last a lifetime. We do this by nurturing the development and well-being of all our community members. Of particular importance is assuring that the life of students outside the classroom is supportive of the educational goals pursued inside the classroom. We strive to be a diverse community but also one united by a shared commitment to the free exchange of ideas, consideration of the opinions of others, and civility in all our interactions. Finally, Marist believes in the dignity of every human being and is committed to the principle of service. The College conducts programs for the disadvantaged, a wide variety of programs that meet community needs, and programs that broaden access to education. • ","St. Bonaventure University provides a values-based education with individual attention from professors, a beautiful residential setting, and a friendly, close-knit atmosphere. Complementing St. Bonaventures traditions are innovative degree programs, computerized career placement aids, comprehensive student life activities, and modern academic facilities. St. Bonaventure instills in students a passion for learning and living. Our professors are committed and approachable faculty who dedicate themselves to making connections -- among themselves, their courses and, most importantly, their students. Frequently our students work alongside faculty on research projects that are often reserved only for graduate students at other institutions. Learning extends far beyond the walls of academic halls at St. Bonaventure, and the essence of that out-of-class experience is service, making a difference in the lives of those in need just down the street or a thousand miles away. Many students take the opportunity to serve as Bona Buddies to area children or senior citizens; help with the national award-winning soup kitchen, The Warming House; or volunteer in one of many service organizations, including ENACTUS and BonaResponds, one of the most active collegiate disaster relief organizations in the nation. Volunteer opportunities include immersion experiences and service opportunities with the poor, both in the U.S. and abroad. We prepare you for life after SBU. Career preparation begins in a student's first year at St. Bonaventure, where 95% of our graduates are employed or move on to graduate work within six months of graduation and our graduation rates are consistently 20% higher than the national average. In the past few years, we have invested millions of dollars in updating and expanding our facilities, which has transformed our campus and infused our curriculum. The William E. and Ann L. Swan Business Center, a new gem on St. Bonaventures architecturally rich campus, opened for the start of fall semester 2013, just 18 months after ground was broken on this state-of-the-art business center. The William F. Walsh Science Center opened in 2008, doubling the space devoted to the sciences at SBU. St. Bonaventure students enjoy two athletic facilities: the $6.2-million Richter Center, featuring three basketball courts, indoor track, racquetball courts, a weight room, 5,000 square feet of cardio and weight equipment and a climbing wall; and the Reilly Center, housing a 5,480-seat sports arena, swimming pool, and weight room. More than 80 percent of St. Bonaventure students take part in intramurals, club sports or fitness programs annually. Most of our students live on campus. First-year students may choose to live in one of several floors clustered by themes, featuring specialized programming for common interests. In 2014, two of our freshman residence halls were completely renovated. Select upper-class student leaders live in the freshman halls, serving as Resident Assistants and Mentors. All of our residence halls feature free laundry facilities and wireless internet. St. Bonaventure is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
