Rankings Applying Cost & Aid Academics Student Life Services Safety Indicators Map More ▾ ","The College of St. Scholastica is a Catholic Benedictine college best known for health care education with a liberal arts foundation. St. Scholastica has proven its leadership during its 105-year history. In the mid-1930s it began the nation's first program in medical records. Today the field is called Health Informatics and Information Management, and the College is still a national leader at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. St. Scholastica's nursing program is one of the largest and most respected in Minnesota. The College's new Health Science Center features state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories for a new Physician Assistant program that will admit its first students in fall 2017, as well as expanded Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy departments. The facility also is home to the maurices Community Clinic, an interdisciplinary academic program that integrates classroom teaching and experiential teaching. This offers students supervised ""hands-on"" experience working with adults and children who are under-insured or uninsured. St. Scholastica's mission is to provide intellectual and moral preparation for responsible living and meaningful work. The independent college is guided by Catholic Benedictine values of respect, hospitality, community, stewardship, and the love of learning. Beginning early in the 20th century, the Benedictine Sisters advanced gender equity by providing educational opportunities to young women well before women had the right to vote. Through higher education, the Benedictines strove to provide quality healthcare and meet the workforce needs of immigrant populations. They also excelled in supporting first-generation college students who might otherwise not have had access to a higher education. This approach continues today through the College's commitment to inclusive excellence, which builds and nurtures a learning and working community in which all members - especially those who feel marginalized by the larger society - feel deeply welcome, valued and supported for who they are. The College also serves as a regional center for culture, leading public interfaith discussions of ethics and peace and justice issues in the tradition of its Catholic Benedictine intellectual heritage. Service to the community and region is an integral part of the St. Scholastica experience. The College sponsors the Twin Ports Thanksgiving Buffet, which for over 25 years has provided companionship and a free meal for more than 5,000 people per year. Students lead a community service day each year that helps non-profit and social welfare organizations throughout the Twin Ports area. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks The College of St. Scholastica among the best colleges and universities in the Upper Midwest for academic excellence. The College is nationally known for being supportive of military veterans, as cited by U.S. News & World Report, Victory Media and Military Advanced Education magazine. Money Magazine has ranked St. Scholastica in the top third of all four-year colleges in the country based on graduation rates, educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings. Forbes magazine named St. Scholastica to its Top Colleges list, based on outcomes metrics including student satisfaction, post-graduate success, and academic success. Along with providing a foundation for responsible living, St. Scholastica also offers real-world impact for its graduates. Ninety-seven percent of St. Scholastica undergraduate students are employed or enrolled in a graduate program within six months of graduation. St. Scholastica offers a distinctive four-year pledge: that new students who enter the College as first-year undergraduate students and follow simple guidelines will graduate in four years, or subsequent tuition is free. Kent State is a world-class public research university that has solidified its position as Northeast Ohio's number one public university - leading in enrollment, graduates and retention. It is one of the largest university systems in the nation and one of the closest families in the world. With a total enrollment of more than 41,000 students coming from 50 states and 109 countries, Kent State offers an environment where pushing limits and freedom of expression thrive.Fostering a vastly diverse culture full of visionary ideas and ambitious people, Kent State earned a coveted spot on U.S. News & World Report's prestigious first-tier list in the Best National Universities category. From the certificate level to the bachelor's, master's and doctoral level, the university offers more than 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.Enhancing an environment of enlightenment, Kent State has undergone the most exciting transformation in its history, involving the construction of new buildings, facility upgrades and establishment of dynamic, new spaces. Changes on the Kent Campus are mirrored in the incredible $110 million renaissance of downtown Kent, strengthening the town-gown relationship and creating the enriching experience of Ohio's rising college town. Locally, some of its brightest, boldest Kent State graduates provide nearly $2 billion in added income annually to the Northeast Ohio economy through the university's development of an educated workforce. In total, the university has more than 235,000 graduates worldwide. Kent State is home to the Liquid Crystal Institute(r), the most comprehensive research and educational center in the field of liquid crystals. The applications of breakthrough findings at the institute have made an impact on the world, from liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions to computer monitors to electronic devices like the iPad. Thanks to recent grants totaling nearly $4 million, Kent State's new Brain Health Research Institute will advance the university's studies in neuroscience -- specifically in the areas of brain injury, neurodegenerative disorders, trauma and stress injuries, and substance abuse -- while connecting more than 50 faculty members from various fields. Ranked first nationally in memory recall studies and third in stress and trauma psychology, Kent State scholars combine their diverse expertise to make brain health one of our largest areas of research strength and opportunity, and a constant focus of our mission to create a culture of wellness for all.In an effort to enhance Kent State's reputation as a leading institution of research, teaching and practice in constructive conflict management, the university is changing the name of the Center for Applied Conflict Management to the School of Peace and Conflict Studies, effective Aug. 1, 2017. The move elevates the center from a unit within the Department of Political Science to a school in the College of the Arts and Sciences. Kent State has Ohio's first and only accredited aviation flight program and is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to offer the only degree program in air traffic control in Ohio. Kent State has received three Ohio Center of Excellence designations in the categories of Cultural and Societal Transformation, Biomedicine & Healthcare, and Enabling Technologies: Advanced Materials and Sensors.
