","Kentucky State University is a historically black college founded in 1886 as a school dedicated to the sole purpose of training teachers for the African American school-age population. More than 125 years later, KSU has expanded its mission to offer a liberal arts education that prepares a diverse student population to compete in a multifaceted, ever-changing global society. KSU is also a land-grant institution with programs to study and address agricultural and family life issues offered through the College of Agriculture, Food Science and Sustainable Systems. KSU and Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Kentucky unveiled a unique scholarship program that matches Toyotas need for mechanical engineers with that of top incoming students at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Beginning in fall 2014, up to five incoming students will receive full-ride scholarships the first three years at KSU on a pre-engineering curriculum, the last two at the University of Kentucky under the Toyota Engineering Scholarship Program. After five years, participants in the program will have an undergraduate degree from Kentucky State and an engineering degree from the University of Kentucky.Alltech and Kentucky State University also have formed a research alliance in which Alltech will provide support for graduate research in agriculture, food sciences and sustainable systems and support undergraduate internships. The purpose of the alliance is to help feed a growing, hungry population by developing sustainable farming techniques and modern farming models. In less than 20 years the College has completed the renovation of eight of its nine academic buildings, including the $13 million renovation and expansion of Peelle and Jones Halls, home to our science and business programs. Renovation and expansion of Mahan Hall, our fine arts building, is currently in the design stage. Opening this spring 2017 is the new medical clinic, a campus-community collaboration that will provide health care to Adrian College students and community members, while also serving as a clinical training site for our degree program in athletic training. Athletic improvements include a new, multi-sport performance stadium and Arrington Arena, an ice skating facility that is home to the College's six hockey teams, synchronized skating and figure skating teams.
