  • ","Westmont College is an undergraduate, residential, Christian, liberal arts community serving God's kingdom by cultivating thoughtful scholars, grateful servants and faithful leaders for global engagement with the academy, church and world.Westmont is widely considered one of a handful of best Christian colleges, known especially for its strong faculty and academic quality. What sets Westmont apart is its singular focus on the residential undergraduate liberal arts. Westmont offers no graduate instruction and relies almost exclusively on full-time faculty, which ensures that undergraduates at all levels will be taught by its top scholars. The liberal arts curriculum and the college's intimate size contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary community. One sign of the interdisciplinary community is the high percentage of Westmont faculty who craft and lead semester-long study programs overseas. Between 60-70% of Westmont students complete a program of off-campus study, and the majority enroll in Westmont-led programs taught by Westmont faculty (East Asia, England, Europe, Istanbul, Uganda, Cairo, Mexico, Jerusalem, etc.). Another factor that distinguishes Westmont from most Christian colleges is its nondenominational character. The faculty and student body reflect a range of evangelical perspectives and churches, and the college is known for its spirit of inquiry rather than legalism. That breadth is evident in robust enrollments in the sciences, with several faculty who have been leaders in the national and international faith-science dialogues. Humanities programs explore contemporary literature and arts, not just traditional topics. Given the relatively compact size of the greater Santa Barbara area, Westmont has been building a vigorous community engagement endeavor, with a high number of student volunteer hours in the community, numerous community lectures and events, and a new social entrepreneurship program.","Private, Coed",1937,N/A,Semester,Suburban,"$75.0 million","955 La Paz Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93108","(805) 565-6000",56,100.0 3021,5,"2018-03-09 02:14:00",California,3021,"2018-04-19 12:02:30","Whittier College",Whittier,"

  • ","Whittier College is a vibrant, residential four-year liberal arts institution, where intellectual inquiry and experiential learning are fostered in a community that promotes respect for diversity of thought and culture. With 43 percent of its students hailing from traditionally under-represented groups, and its federal designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Whittier College remains one of the most diverse liberal arts schools in the nation. The Colleges location at the crossroads of Los Angeles and Orange Counties - Southern Californias centers of urban and cultural life - provides unparalleled opportunities to explore a full range of thought, cultures, and talents. Nationally recognized for its Whittier Scholars Program, interdisciplinary curriculum, and emphasis on linking theory and practice, Whittier Colleges academic program is progressive; students gain a wide breadth of knowledge and the confidence to apply that knowledge, primed to flourish in graduate studies, the evolving global workplace, and life. Working closely with professors and with the advantage of small class size, students have extensive undergraduate research opportunities, which atypically extend beyond the natural and physical sciences to include social sciences, humanities, and the arts. Multitudes of students have become published authors through joint research endeavors and have actively participated in national professional conferences. Whittier faculty also embrace the educational advantages provided through experiential learning; a high percentage of students engage in off-campus study both locally and abroad, academically supported through research trips, fieldwork, service projects, and professional internships. Popular with students is the January Interim session, an abbreviated but rigorous term that offers intense focus on subject matter, typically followed by a field trip to apply learning. Recent courses included travel to Mexico to study multinational management practices; Chile to analyze the politics of race, religion, and gender in action; Paris to examine historical social construct through city planning; and Rome to explore origins of art and architecture. Whittiers 50-year association with the DIS-Copenhagen program remains the most popular semester abroad option, though recent choice destinations have included India, China, Egypt, Africa, and South America. Hosting nearly 90 registered student organizations, club sports, and honorary societies, as well as 21 NCAA Division III competitive sports teams - including champion lacrosse and water polo teams - Whittier College affords students the opportunity to participate in all aspects of student life. The intimate size of the campus, educational and social events hosted at the Faculty Masters homes, themed living-learning groups, and inherently inclusive Quaker values of truth, acceptance, justice, community, service, and diversity each contribute to the strong sense of community experienced by all. In particular, strong faculty-student relationships are forged here - through collaborative projects, mentoring, and social interaction - that extend well beyond the college years and most often result in professional networking, graduate study references, and career assistance later in life. Combining experience, academics, and environment, Whittier graduates emerge well-prepared for leadership in a global economy across a variety of sectors, including public service, education and social work, science and health, entrepreneurial business, and the arts.","Private, Coed",1887,N/A,4-1-4,Suburban,"$90.7 million","13406 Philadelphia Street, PO Box 634, Whittier, CA 90608","(562) 907-4200",48,100.0 3022,5,"2018-03-09 02:14:00",California,3022,"2018-04-18 02:56:54","Santa Clara University","Santa Clara","

  • ","Santa Clara University, a comprehensive Jesuit, Catholic university in Silicon Valley, offers its students rigorous undergraduate curricula in arts and sciences, business, and engineering, plus masters and law degrees and a doctorate in engineering. Distinguished nationally by one of the highest graduation rates among all U.S. masters universities, Californias oldest operating higher-education institution demonstrates faith-inspired values of ethics and social justice. Founded in 1851 by the Society of Jesus as Santa Clara College, SCU was established on the site of Mission Santa Clara de Asis, the eighth of 21 California missions. The university draws upon more than 450 years of the Jesuit tradition to educate students and citizens prepared to contribute to a more just, humane, and sustainable world. High student satisfaction and achievement are reflected in the fact that 96 percent of freshman students advance to the sophomore year and 89 percent graduate within six years, among the highest percentages in the country. In addition, in 2016 Kiplingers Personal Finance Magazine named Santa Clara University among the top 30th of best values among private universities nationwide, and PayScale ranked SCU in the top 10 percent of schools in Return on Investment in 2016. Santa Clara University was also listed among the top 200 best value colleges by Princeton Review. The School of Laws intellectual property program has been recognized among the top 6 in the country. Santa Claras emphasis on a community of scholars and integrated education attracts faculty members who are as committed to their students intellectual and moral development as they are to pursuing their own scholarship. SCU's 544 full-time faculty members include Fulbright professors, nationally recognized authors and poets, groundbreaking scientists, and highly regarded economic forecasters. The integration of Santa Clara University and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (JST) in 2009 resulted in the new Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. Located 40 miles south of San Francisco, in the heart of Silicon Valley, Santa Clara University offers abundant career opportunities and access to a variety of educational, cultural, and recreational activities. The 106-acre campus features beautiful gardens and landscaping, and contains more than 50 buildings, the newest being the Schott Admission & Enrollment Services Building, which combines the offices of Admission, Financial Aid, the Bursar, and Registrar under one roof and features an interactive exhibit about the university. At Santa Clara, the notion of sustainability informs many of the classes and campus activities. SCU received a Gold rating in the nations second comprehensive sustainability rating system for colleges and universities and was also named by the Princeton Review as one of the top ""50 Green Colleges"" in the nation (19th). Santa Clara University has over 90,000 alumni who live in all 50 states and in 130 foreign countries. • ","California State University Maritime Academy's waterside campus on the northern end of San Francisco Bay is tucked into a quiet cove with ever-changing views of the ever-changing maritime world. This world is much more than operating commercial ships; it is a global economic force linking with various modes of transportation to get commodities and people from point A to point B. Operating this global enterprise requires engineers, business leaders, port managers, deck officers, environmental advocates, maritime security consultants, and more. Cal Maritime produces professionals in these and other areas related to the ocean as a resource and an engine for a global economy.Academies are generally small, focused, structured, and offer a high-quality education. These characteristics all describe Cal Maritime. Our students study one of only six majors, and students are generally very focused on their chosen fields. Quality, personalized teaching is provided with a student-to-faculty ratio of 15 to 1 and average class size of 20. Cal Maritime is not a military academy, however, we do stress some similar values as the military academies such as leadership and accountability. Our reputation among the many corporations, industries, agencies, and graduate schools filled with Cal Maritime alumni is that of a school preparing professional, responsible, and successful graduates. As one of the 23 campuses in the California State University system, Cal Maritime enjoys the strength associated with this planet's largest university system. Tuition and housing costs are no more than other CSU campuses up and down the state which makes us highly affordable. Our academic quality, however, shares more in common with private colleges. Our small average class size and approachable, mentoring faculty creates the type of academic atmosphere more closely associated with small schools. At Cal Maritime, all students are also cadets who comprise the Corps of Cadets that forms the basic organizational structure of the Academy. Your classes will teach you the hard skills and knowledge for your degree, but the Corps of Cadets stresses the soft skills such as responsibility, accountability, leadership, and professionalism. Those soft skills are what give Cal Maritime graduates an advantage in their job search and later careers. There are always things in life (and in college) where the benefits are hard to see in the moment, but they become apparent as people enter their career. Eventually, everyone has dress and grooming standards in the workplace. Cal Maritime considers the campus your workplace, so cadets wear uniforms during the class day. Generally, personal clothes are just fine after the last class of the day. There are no curfews, but there is a mandatory morning assembly called Quarters three days a week where there are announcements and possible uniform inspections. One important way that Cal Maritime ensures a global perspective in its graduates is the requirement that all students travel abroad while taking courses and gaining experiences important to each major. The way each student fulfills this requirement is determined by his or her individual major. All Cal Maritime cadets in the Marine Transportation program and all three Engineering programs become members of the crew of the 500-foot Training Ship Golden Bear on at least one sixty day journey visiting a number of ports around the Pacific Rim. The cadets run the ship under the supervision of licensed maritime professionals. Cadets also take classes, perform ship maintenance, and gain a first-hand exposure to ship operations.Cal Maritime alumni also boast one of the highest career placement rates in the country. Ninety-four percent of our 2016 graduates confirmed employment in their field by August 1 of that year.","Public, Coed",1929,N/A,Semester,Suburban,N/A,"200 Maritime Academy Drive, Vallejo, CA 94590","(707) 654-1000",87,100.0 3024,5,"2018-03-09 02:14:00",California,3024,"2018-04-19 12:04:04","Loyola Marymount University","Los Angeles","

  • ","Founded in 1863, Saint Marys College of California is one of the oldest colleges in the West. Saint Marys has been directed since 1868 by the Christian Brothers, the largest Catholic order dedicated exclusively to teaching. The founder of the order, Saint John Baptist de La Salle, is the patron saint of teachers. Saint Marys is shaped by three traditions: Catholic, Lasallian, and liberal arts. Our Catholic tradition encourages an appreciation of all faiths, a respect for the dignity of human life, a willingness to explore the mystery of existence, and an understanding of the whole person, mind and body, soul and spirit. Our Lasallian tradition encourages a commitment to social justice and to transformative teaching - a shared investigation of faith, reason, and the diversity of human experience. Our liberal arts tradition means that we are dedicated to profound reflection and worldly experience, critical thinking and global awareness, integrated scholarship and lifelong learning. Our academic program includes advanced study in 30 major fields - in the arts and humanities, the sciences and social sciences, education and business. Our labs and classes are small-averaging around 20 students and student-centered, enabling intense discussion, lively debates, and a strong sense that ideas matter. Our rigorous core curriculum includes the Collegiate Seminar, a series of discussion-based classes examining the worlds great ideas. The January Term program allows students to pursue a single specialized topic in depth. We are committed to experiential learning; students take advantage of an extensive study abroad program and internships, research, and service opportunities. Many of our more than 200 full-time professors are internationally renowned for their research and scholarship; all are skilled teachers and dedicated mentors. Saint Marys is home to over 2,700 undergraduates from across the country and around the world. Our student body is unusually diverse; 50% of our undergraduates identify themselves as African American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latino American, or Native American. And our students are unusually active: they manage dozens of clubs and organizations, play on our 17 Division I teams, and coordinate our extensive recreation program. Our Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action is a nationally recognized center for social service; every year, nearly half of our students join a service project. Resident students live in thirteen residence halls and eight townhouse complexes; residential life is guided by trained student advisors, professional staff, and more than two dozen Christian Brothers. Our 420-acre campus is set among rolling hills and marked by a stately chapel, villa-style architecture, quiet courtyards, and fragrant pines. The most recent additions to the campus include the Syufy Performing Arts Center and our state-of-the-art science facility. The Joseph L. Alioto Recreation Center opened in spring 2015 and includes an 8,000 square foot fitness center with rock climbing wall, 3 full-size courts for recreation and indoor intramural sports, whirlpool, and an aquatics center with a recreational pool, to name a few aspects of the facility. • ","As one of nine polytechnic universities nationwide, Cal Poly Pomona integrates a learn-by-doing approach into its project and presentation-based coursework. This long-standing polytechnic approach makes it unique among traditional universities and has earned Cal Poly Pomona the reputation of developing individuals who are among the most sought after in todays marketplace.A nationally-recognized public university with a number of highly respected and ranked programs, Cal Poly Pomona provides its students an excellent environment for academic, personal and professional success. The U.S. Department of Education, U.S. News & World Report, Black Issues in Higher Education, Design Intelligence, Hispanic Outlook Magazine, Journal of Hospitality Management, Los Angeles Times Business Journal and Project Connect have ranked Cal Poly Pomona in numerous categories.Cal Poly Pomona is located on the eastern edge of Southern Californias San Gabriel Valley. The site of the university is the former winter ranch of William K. Kellogg, the cereal magnate. The universitys 1,400-acre campus features lush rolling hills; flowers, plants and trees from all seven continents; a rose garden personally built by Kellogg; and a beautifully landscaped Japanese Garden. The universitys aesthetic qualities are one of its best kept secrets. Some of the worlds finest architects and landscape architects designed and built the ranch - a hybrid of architecture, which combined the formal courtyards, gardens and elements of Spanish, Italian and Islamic architecture with the informality of a growing nouveau-riche society. Pasadena architect Myron Hunt (Rose Bowl, Huntington Library) designed Kelloggs main house. Charles Gibbs Adams, whose work included the Hearst Castle Gardens in San Simeon, California, was selected to landscape the grounds. Later, the landscape was completed by Florence Yoch and Lucille Council, widely recognized as two of the finest garden designers and landscape architects in California. More recently, Antoine Predock designed the Universitys administration building with a desert theme. The university has a distinguished history with its origin as a private school. Two national icons, Charles B. Voorhis, a prominent automotive industry figure, and Kellogg, contributed to the Universitys establishment and success. Voorhis entered the automobile business as a sales manager, joining the Oakland Motor Car Company (General Motors) of Pontiac, Michigan in 1914 and rose to become vice-president. In 1917, he helped found the Nash Motors Company with then GM President Charles W. Nash. In 1928, Voorhis opened the Voorhis School for Boys in San Dimas, California, a college for homeless young men which he endowed and served as chairman of the board. With the help of his son, Jerry Voorhis, a U. S. Congressman, the Voorhis School for Boys became one of the most popular institutions in Southern California. In 1938, the Voorhis School for Boys became known as the Voorhis Unit of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo when the State of California acquired the private school. In 1949, the Voorhis Unit acquired Kelloggs winter ranch. In 1925, Kellogg fulfilled a dream when he moved to Pomona, California to start an Arabian horse breeding program, the oldest in the United States and the fifth largest in the country today. More than 70% of the domestic Arabian bloodstock in the U.S. can trace its lineage to the original breeding program. With the assistance of Richard Nixon and then U.S. President Harry S. Truman, Kelloggs desire to have the ranch become an institution of higher education became a reality. A stipulation in maintaining the property is that the University continues Kelloggs tradition of a Sunday Arabian horse show. On the first Sunday of the month from October through May, students host public performances.","Public, Coed",1938,N/A,Quarter,Suburban,"$85.6 million +","3801 W. • ","At Pacific Union College, our mission is to offer an excellent and distinctive Christian education that prepares our students for productive lives of useful human service and uncompromising integrity. We do this by helping students strive for excellence in all areas of life, including the training of the mind and spirit. In this sense, Pacific Union College offers students a complete, whole-life education. One of our greatest strengths is our commitment to undergraduate education. We are truly a teaching community, and our goal is to provide an exceptional learning environment for our students. This means smaller classes, where professors teach the courses, not graduate assistants, and plenty of opportunities for students to interact with faculty and staff. At PUC, it is common for students to find a worthy mentor in a professor, residence hall dean, or even the college president. Many professors choose to open up their homes for department dinners, offering students a home-cooked meal. The majority of the faculty and staff also attend the college church, where they worship side by side with students. We believe that authentic relationships between college staff and students are integral to the educational experience.Academically, PUC has received numerous accolades. Along with consistently high ratings from the U.S. News & World Reports ""Americas Best Colleges"", PUCs students score above the 90th percentile in several Major Field Achievement Tests. We offer excellent pre-professional programs, and many of our students are accepted into the nations most prestigious graduate, law, medical, and dental programs. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) has given PUC its most favorable rating. As a Christian organization, we have a commitment to provide an environment where faith can thrive. We encourage our students to thoughtfully examine their personal faith in the classrooms, residence halls, and worship programs. Honest and intellectual exploration of ideas is central to the faith journey at PUC. More than 125 years ago, one of our colleges founders expressed hope that Pacific Union College would become a place for ""thinkers, not mere reflectors of other mens thoughts"". • ","Harvey Mudd College is a liberal arts college of science, engineering and mathematics. At HMC, we seek to educate engineers, scientists, and mathematicians well versed in all of these areas and in the humanities and the social sciences so that they may assume leadership in their fields with a clear understanding of the impact of their work on society. The founders of Harvey Mudd College envisioned a distinctive educational experience, combining unusual breadth in their technical education with a firm academic grounding in the humanities and social sciences. The required curriculum has three components: the Common Core, which provides the foundation for advanced study; the program in Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts, which emphasizes the liberal arts nature of a Harvey Mudd College education; and the Major, which builds depth and technical competence. Unifying all of these is an emphasis on strong oral and written communication, the development of computational skills, and direct experience with a research or design project. Celebrating its 54th year in 2017, HMCs signature Clinic Program provides students with an opportunity to work as part of a team on projects sponsored by entrepreneurs, companies, and national laboratories. Of the students in the graduating class of 2016, over three-fourths were engaged in either internship programs or undergraduate research opportunities that challenged them to apply their academic experiences in real-world settings. HMCs academic programs are demanding, but the College fosters cooperation rather than competition under a successful student-led Honor Code. Almost every student lives on campus, where the atmosphere is characterized not only by trust, freedom, and responsibility, but also by a sense of humor, fun, and creativity. Students at Harvey Mudd College enjoy the kind of personal attention, small classes, and close working relationships with faculty mentors associated with the finest liberal arts colleges. Students also benefit from the advantages of a larger institution because of the unique Claremont University Consortium, whose member colleges are located across the street from one another and make available classes, dining halls, libraries, parties, sports teams, and other resources far beyond those any one such school could provide. Under the leadership of its president, Maria Klawe, HMC continues to distinguish itself as an innovative institution: In 2016, 5 seniors and 6 alumni received National Science Foundation (NSF) graduate research fellowships and 2 seniors and 7 alumni received honorable mentions; 3 students received a Goldwater Scholarships; 1 student received a Watson Fellowship; A computer science and mathematics major received a Computing Research Association (CRA) Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award. The prestigious program recognizes undergraduates demonstrating outstanding potential in computing research.A CS faculty member was awarded a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) grant; For being a longtime mentor to the next generation of women engineers, engineering Professor Elizabeth Orwin '95 received the Orange County Engineering Council's Distinguished Educator Award and Presidents Award. Jack Cuzick '70, recipient of the 2015 American Cancer Society Medal of Honor and Fellow of the Royal Society received a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.President Maria Klawe was awarded an honorary doctor of science degree from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada. In addition to that recognition, she continues to publish and speak widely, including a TED talk at TEDxUCLA.Finally, HMC was again awarded the distinction of being one of the nations ""Best Value"" colleges according to the Princeton Review and continues to be ranked highly for overall college return on investment in PayScale's College ROI Report.","Private, Coed",1955,N/A,Semester,Suburban,"$272.6 million +","301 Platt Boulevard, Claremont, CA 91711","(909) 621-8000",87,100.0 3101,5,"2018-03-09 02:14:00",California,3101,"2018-04-19 03:08:50","Scripps College",Claremont,"

  • ","For the women of Scripps College, academic and extracurricular opportunities abound. Students work with a faculty of distinguished teachers, scholars, and researchers who believe their first responsibility is to stimulate and support undergraduate learning. Seminar-style classes taught only by professors--never teaching assistants--ensure that students share ideas in a supportive, interactive atmosphere. At the cornerstone of Scripps academic program is the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, which challenges Scripps women not only to think, but to think about the way they think. The Core program looks at the many connections among culture, knowledge, and representation across a number of disciplines, encouraging students critical awareness of the limits of disciplinary methods and theories. Scripps Study Abroad and Global Education program further encourages students to apply their learning to global experiences by studying abroad for a semester or a year. And by requiring a senior thesis based on research in the major, Scripps stimulates independent thought and a lifelong commitment to original inquiry. As a result of their superb liberal arts education, Scripps graduates go on to attend some of the most prestigious graduate schools in the nation and take on leadership positions in a wide range of fields and endeavors. As part of The Claremont Colleges, a community unique to American higher education, Scripps offers its students the best of both worlds. Students receive the personal attention of a small residential college while benefiting from the academic and social resources of a larger university. With five undergraduate colleges literally next door to one another, The Claremont Colleges provides expanded intellectual, athletic, and extracurricular opportunities to students and faculty at each of the individual colleges. The Joint Science Department, a collaboration of Scripps, Pitzer, and Claremont McKenna Colleges, allows students to take advantage of remarkable research opportunities in pre-medicine and science; Scripps science students frequently receive national recognition for their work.Scripps' Claremont location gives students easy access to Los Angeles beaches as well as San Gabriel Mountain skiing, and all the offerings and energy of Southern California. Scripps campus, considered one of the most beautiful in the United States, is on the National Register of Historic Places.Scripps remains a womens college because it believes that having women at the core of its concerns provides the best environment for intellectually ambitious women to learn from a distinguished faculty and from each other. The Colleges largely residential population of fewer than 1,000 students encourages women to actively participate in their community and to develop a sense of personal and social responsibility. Scripps believes that this form of challenging and individualized education will best prepare women for lives of confidence and success.A current student sums up her college experience so far: The small-campus atmosphere of Scripps provides me with the comfort and support I need to create a home away from home, but it never lets me settle. I have been pushed and encouraged to expand my community and breadth of learning at every opportunity. The students and professors here are incredibly passionate and active; many classes and campus groups, as well as the academic emphasis on off-campus study, allow us to pursue our goals and get involved with external communities and organizations, extending the Scripps family well beyond the walls of Honnold Gate. Although the University does not offer a religious curriculum and admits students without regard to religious affiliation, the founding spirit is inspired by Buddhist principles of peace, human rights and the sanctity of life. Emphasizing a non-sectarian humanistic curriculum, including the importance of self-knowledge, self-mastery, the dignity of life and peace, Soka strives to achieve its mission ""to foster a steady stream of global citizens committed to living a contributive life."" Soka values student-centered education that promotes peace and human rights, fostering a global humanistic perspective on the world in which we live. Classrooms are centers of dialogue and discussion, emphasizing seminar course settings. The campus offers a 8:1 student/faculty ratio (average class size of 13). All undergraduate students live on campus. The average freshman-year retention is 96%, and 83.5% graduate in 4 years and 89% in 5 years. Sokas 103-acre hilltop campus is open to top students of all nationalities and beliefs. Half of the student body is international. In 2008 Soka became the smallest and youngest university to offer full tuition to admitted students whose annual family income is $60,000 or less. Over 90% of our domestic and international student body receive need-based and/or merit-based scholarships totaling over 10 million dollars. The BA program is a multi-disciplinary program in liberal arts with concentrations in Environmental Studies, Humanities, International Studies, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Taught within each concentration and across the curriculum are multiple perspectives drawing on diverse cultures, traditions, and points of view with special attention given to Eastern and Western thought and practice. A general education program introduces students to disciplinary knowledge and perspectives, as well as to critical and creative thinking and to the communication skills necessary for life-long learning. All students take seminar-style Core Curriculum classes, exploring the great works of both Eastern and Western culture (Core I) and current issues of social inequality, personal and group identities and major issues facing humanity today (Core II). All students, both domestic and international, study a non-native language and spend a semester of their junior year in a country where that language is spoken. Study abroad is mandatory and included in tuition. All seniors complete a capstone project, choosing their own topic and faculty advisor. Learning Clusters are among the most unique academic programs at Soka. A research seminar where students work in teams with faculty facilitators, each Cluster is designed to bridge theory and practice by helping students learn to apply a range of investigative and analytical tools in the discovery and presentation of trends and ideas. And because truth is both natural and supernatural, the College offers an academic program that aims at both natural and divine wisdom. This curriculum of Thomas Aquinas College presents the arts and sciences of liberal education as a comprehensive whole. There are no majors, no minors, no electives, and no specializations. Homer, Herodotus, Plato, Euclid, Aristotle, St. Augustine, Shakespeare, Einstein, and especially St. Thomas Aquinas are among the authors read. There are no textbooks. There are also no lectures. The curriculum is a sustained conversation in the form of tutorials, seminars, and laboratories guided by tutors who assist students in the work of reading, analyzing, and evaluating these great books. Students develop the lost tools of inquiry, argument, and translation in critically reading and analyzing texts, in mathematical demonstration, and in laboratory investigation.Equipped with these tools, the graduates are fortified to undertake any area of study, professional training, or vocation. In addition to bachelor's degrees, the college offers a master of arts in teaching degree. One distinguishing feature of Colorado College is the Block Plan.
