Stretching across 178 acres of land along the Savannah River in Augusta, Ga., Bluff Plantation offers comprehensive therapy and dual diagnosis treatment for adults struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. According to its website, the facility provides holistic services with the amenities of a comfortable resort. Detox is available through the center’s affiliation with the Medical College of Georgia.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Bluff Plantation follows a treatment philosophy combining holistic, neuroscience-driven, and physician-backed care.
The process begins with a comprehensive evaluation and plan of treatment. Services include detoxification (up to Level IV for severe cases), residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient programming (IOP). Personal therapy, 12-step work, meditation, and nutritional counseling** may be incorporated at all stages.
Bluff Plantation focuses on continued care. To ease the transition following treatment, aftercare coordinators help clients readjust to life at home and work.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Part of the RiverMend Health Family of Treatment Centers and affiliated with the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, Bluff Plantation is led by highly experienced pain and addiction experts, including a triple board certified medical director and a master’s level executive director. Other treatment staff includes therapists, nurses, nutrition counselors, and physicians.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Accommodations at Bluff Plantation are secluded and comfortable. There are 19 beds, and residents live in several private cottages. The surrounding natural environment offers a peaceful backdrop for meditation, yoga, and equine therapy. Residents eat gourmet, chef-prepared meals inspired by the science of diet and brain function.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
According to information gathered by Rehabs.com, former clients have mainly positive experiences to report. Those who responded to survey questions about the facility offered the following ratings in these major categories: an average of four stars out of five for treatment effectiveness, 4.4 stars for accommodations and amenities, and 4.6 stars for meals and nutrition.
One consistent five-star reviewer told Rehabs.com: \"Bluff changed my life! The staff cares deeply about everyone that walks through the doors. They were up front about what to expect, all costs, and provided everything they said they would. I would recommend this place to anyone I care about.\" Another five-star reviewer shared: \"The staff were wonderful and the fact that diet and exercise were incorporated into their program was a HUGE benefit. Lots of one on one counseling and application of spiritual principles was key. Recommend highly!\"
On the other end of the spectrum, a former client wrote: \"Wonderful staff,but not really equipped for methadone detox,at least not as painless as they promise. It\\'s very painful & you are surrounded by other people in different stages of rehab.\" In a mixed review, an alum warned: \"The doctors and technicians were very supportive and caring. The billing department leaves much to be desired. For example, not every test they give you while in treatment is covered by insurance. They do not communicate this to you when you take said test, and whatever credit card you have on file is then charged $1500.00 without your authorization.\"
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Most of the loved ones polled by Rehabs.com regarded Bluff Plantation favorably with high ratings for cleanliness. M.T. praised the doctor-patient interaction. “Dr. Jacobs and the clinical staff are amazing!! It's rare to have daily interaction with the Medical Director, the doctors usually \"stop by\" a couple times a week at other programs.\"
Most of the variables in the Rehabs.com survey received ratings of four stars or more out of five with the exception of affordability, which received an average of 3.67 stars. “Very homey but expensive,” one alum noted.
One negative reviewer wrote: \"DO NOT GO TO OR SEND a love one to this facility!!! This facility is doing nothing but preying on individuals struggling with substance abuse.\"
WHAT STAFF SAY
Of the two staff members surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, both recommended the facility highly, although one qualified their positive recommendation with low ratings in affordability, exercise & leisure, and family participation.
