Huntingdon College, grounded in the Judeo-Christian tradition of the United Methodist Church, is committed to nurturing growth in faith, wisdom, and service and to graduating individuals prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Founded in 1854, Huntingdon is a coeducational liberal arts college. Ranked in the top tier of regional colleges by U.S. News and World Report and consistently listed in the Princeton Reviews "The Best Colleges: Region by Region," Huntingdon is recognized on the Presidents Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Washington Monthly, which ranks colleges on the basis of their contributions to the public good, places Huntingdon among the best baccalaureate colleges in the country. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently recognized Huntingdon among "The Fastest Growing Colleges in America." Travel-study opportunities during the senior year; a laptop computer; Fixed Tuition allowing families to plan for college costs with no tuition increases for 4 years; and the cost of books and info resources included in regular fees are just a few of the components of the Huntingdon Plan, Huntingdon's promise to full-time day students. Nestled in the beautiful and safe Old Cloverdale neighborhood of Montgomery, Alabama's capital city, the campus allows students access to internships and permanent employment as well as large-city things to do and places to go, while allowing students space to just "be." Students find the park-like Green at the center of campus a place to relax, meet with friends, or study during the mostly-warm year-round weather, while the campus' Collegiate Gothic architecture is a reminder of history, tradition, and steadfast educational values. "Friendly," "like family," "like home," are words used by students to describe the Huntingdon atmosphere. The College motto, "Enter to Grow in Wisdom, Go Forth to Apply Wisdom in Service," is inscribed above the door of the main building, John Jefferson Flowers Hall. Huntingdon offers more than 20 programs of study, 11 teacher education programs, 11 pre-professional advising tracks, 18 NCAA-Division III intercollegiate athletic teams with membership in the USA South Athletic Conference, national fraternities and sororities, 16 academic honor societies, numerous clubs and organizations, Campus Ministries, recreation, intramurals, residence life, and a broad range of fine and performing arts programs including a marching band, jazz band, show choir, concert band, music ensembles, drama club, and art gallery. At Huntingdon, every club or organization participates in service activities. On campus the College operates SaveFirst tax preparation for low-income taxpayers; the Huntingdon Ability Sport Network and Red Wings adapted sports teams for youth ages 6-20; and Adapted Physical Education courses in partnership with special needs students from area schools. Off-campus service is abundant and fosters student-community engagement in addition to contributing to the greater good. Several college-wide service days are hosted annually. Students discover what they are called to do with their lives, as well as where their talents meet the worlds needs, through the broad exposure of liberal arts courses, the experiences of living and studying in community, and the encouragement received from professors and advisers. The Colleges Center for Career and Vocation prepares students for and helps students through internship, employment, and graduate school selection processes. Placement rates into graduate and professional schools or into employment are nearly twice the national averages. Tradition & folklore add much to the Huntingdon experience, from the famous "Red Lady" ghost stories to much-loved occasions such as Homecoming, Commencement, & a plethora of concerts, convocations, performances, & student life programs, Huntingdon students are part of a continuum connecting the past with the future. |

The University of Alabama is a major, comprehensive, student-centered research university founded in 1831 as Alabama's first public college. Dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and service, UA provides a creative, nurturing campus environment where our students can become the best individuals possible, learn from highly qualified faculty, and make a positive difference in the community, the state and the world. On a typical day on our beautiful and historic Southern campus, an undergraduate student works side by side with a top molecular biologist, researching Parkinson's disease; students openly debate controversial topics at programs sponsored by the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility, and students participate in community service projects in the Tuscaloosa area. Fall weekends are alive with the excitement of Alabama football -- and Roll Tide Roll echoes across the campus. Ranked among the top public universities in the nation in the enrollment of National Merit scholars, UA's rising tide of academic excellence is attracting the best and brightest students from Alabama and across the nation. Our 2016 freshman class was the largest and best qualified in UA history, with more than 40 percent of the 7,559-member class scoring 30 or higher on the ACT. UA's graduates and students include numerous Rhodes, Goldwater, Truman and Hollings Scholars. Participation in original research and creative activity is a hallmark of the undergraduate experience at UA, with students working closely with faculty on a wide variety of challenging and innovative projects. In addition to equipping our students to succeed academically, The University of Alabama's programs set the bar high for character, service and citizenship. Students are encouraged to participate in one or more of 500 campus organizations. Campus ministries are thriving. At The University of Alabama, our students are members of a proud family that is more than 180 years old. That's why we treat them as if they were our own sons and daughters. |

Birmingham-Southern College is a selective, nationally ranked, residential liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College enrolls approximately 1300 undergraduate students, is one of 40 institutions included in Pope's Colleges that Change Lives, and is a sheltering institution for Phi Beta Kappa. In keeping with its tagline, "Explore, Experience, Excel" BSC is known for making meaningful experiential learning opportunities available to students in a wide array of contexts. The College's academic calendar allows students to undertake special learning opportunities during the Exploration term (January) when they have the opportunity for intense investigation of a particular subject for a period of approximately four weeks: this could be a project proposed by a faculty member or one designed by a student and a faculty sponsor; it may be held on campus or anywhere off campus, domestic or foreign; it may be an overall introduction to a subject area or a specialized interest investigated in depth. Whatever the project chosen, Exploration term provides students with opportunities for creative, experiential, and independent study. The focus on ensuring that students make solid connections between their education and their lives after college extends throughout their four years at BSC. We believe that our obligation as a liberal arts college is to help students develop the capacity to make and communicate responsible decisions based on information accurately gathered and astutely analyzed. Therefore, BSC's general education program is outcomes-based, focusing on graduates' abilities to communicate effectively, solve problems creatively, engage their social and political world, connect their coursework to the wider world, and engage in self-directed learning. Students may choose a major offered by the College or, in consultation with a faculty committee, may design their own individualized major program. The College is recognized nationally for the percentage of its students admitted to medical, dental, or health career programs. At Birmingham-Southern we take pride in our tradition of providing a high-quality liberal arts education, and we are proud of our continued ability to take a flexible approach to maintaining proven educational goals and standards. |

The University of West Alabama(UWA), a state-supported, coeducational institution of higher education, was founded in 1835 by Julia Tutwiler. Located in Livingston, Alabama, the University was originally founded as an all-female college of education, and over the years has experienced multiple name changes as the mission of the University has changed. In the 1990s, Livingston University was officially renamed the University of West Alabama to more accurately represent the University's current mission. Although the University welcomes students from all across the state, the country, and the world, it seeks to serve as the primary agent of change within the Black Belt region and has done so since its inception. Many of the University's students are first-generation college students, and the University provides opportunities for students to pursue an affordable, quality education through associate, baccalaureate, masters, and education specialist degrees. With an enrollment of approximately 4,000 students on campus and online, the University is committed to maintaining small student-to-teacher ratios to allow students to connect personally with their professors and peers. In addition, courses are never taught by graduate assistants, with professors teaching and advising students in all courses. This commitment to a small student-to-teacher ratio is one of the primary reasons many students choose UWA. As the cost of education has continued to rise, the University has also committed to keeping tuition and housing costs as affordable as possible. Currently, the University maintains the most affordable tuition of all four-year universities within the state. Because many of UWA's students are first-generation college students, affordability plays a huge factor in many students choosing to attend UWA. A variety of scholarships, including academic, band, choir, and athletic scholarships, are offered to students. Students with ACT scores of 21 or higher can apply and receive academic scholarships, which furthermore assists students in managing the costs of tuition and housing. In a rural town of around 3,500 residents, the University of West Alabama is the heart of Livingston. The University provides students with the opportunity to pursue a higher education while offering small class sizes and personal relationships with faculty and staff within the setting of a small, rural town with minimal distracts and an abundance of green space. |
